Deben Community Energy
Enabling our community to meet its needs
WHAT IS COMMUNITY ENERGY?
Let's face it - Net Zero needs buy-in from everyone. Energy provision is a huge factor affecting our ability to reduce emissions and we believe that our community has a role to play in this. In a community energy project, people work together to reduce their energy use and generate low carbon heat and power locally. In practice, this takes the form of increasing awareness, providing funding for insulation, increasing solar generation (most likely roof-top), and exploring local opportunities for onshore wind. We believe that community-owned energy generation will even reduce costs.
DCC's core objective is to tackle Climate Change, and this latest project is key to achieving this. With funding from Community Energy South, we have hired three Energy Champions, who will spend their time running Energy Clinics, engaging with residents, delivering highly relevant and valuable advice.
While energy saving brings the quickest returns, we will also seek out opportunities to generate more energy locally: identifying opportunities for roof-top solar on public and industrial buildings.
WHAT DOES AN ENERGY CHAMPION DO?
-
Gives energy efficiency advice.
-
Attends energy efficiency events and advice clinics.
-
Provides knowledgeable and trusted support.
